Because of its enormous strategic position Malta boasts of a very rich multi-cultural history. In addition, globally, Malta also boasts with one of the highest densities of Archaeological remains per km2/nation. This picture is taken at the site of the Ggantija temples. These temples were built around 5600 years ago by the Maltese Neolithic temple Culture. The Ggantija temples belong to the category of the oldest free standing Megalithic monuments on earth. They have been built 1000 years before the Pyramids of Egypt. Archaeologists today are of the opinion that these enormous structures could have been built as religious places. Inside the temples of Malta, archaeologists found remains of Animals, pottery, statues and many things more of that period. The animal bones found inside the temples point towards a possible Animal sacrifice ritual, maybe for their Goddess of Fertility. Because of the age of the temples not much is certain and the majority of the knowledge is based on theoretical possibilities based on the material evidence found.
