The Islands of Malta have known in their history,due to its very important strategic position, many occupiers. Malta is positioned nearly exactly in the middle between Gibraltar and the Suez canal. Until the end of the second World War it was very difficult to dominate the Mediterranean without controlling Malta. One can still see many remnants of the Military past of the Islands be it in the form of Canons, sculptures with military themes or beautifully orchestrated military re-enactments. The Canon on this picture can be found in Malta in the historic city named Birgu.
